Niko Tila has been a lifeguard with the Astoria Aquatic Center for three years. During his time as a lifeguard, Niko has shown a strong aptitude as a first responder. He has also progressed as a natural leader among his peers, consistently going above and beyond to assist in coaching his peers when practicing lifesaving skills and  always leading by example. Niko was promoted to a lead guard in May of this year and has continued to excel as a leader.

Recently, in the Aquatic Center's quarterly unannounced audit, Niko received scores of "EXCEEDS standards" in all categories of the audit. His leadership during the skills testing scenario were so exemplary, he was given a special recognition of “outstanding rescuer." We are very proud of Niko’s achievement and greatly appreciate his leadership as a lifeguard.

Norm Stutzenegger has been a volunteer coach with Astoria Parks and Recreation for 16 years. Norm is one of the most requested coaches by players in our baseball program.  His kindness and knowledge of basic fundamentals have been great tools in shaping the skill set of young ball players in Astoria. Not only has Norm been a wonderful volunteer coach, but he supports our programs through team sponsorships with his local business, Columbia Screenprinting. He does an outstanding job outfitting our teams in uniforms.  Norm has been an exemplary volunteer to the Astoria Parks and Recreation Department, and to the community at large.  Thank you, Norm!
